Thornbridge

In this special episode, Steve & Myles Lambert are joined by The Ale Lady at Thornbridge Brewery for a tasting of ‘Lukas’, ‘Raindrops on Roses’, ‘Kipling’, ‘Am:Pm’ and ‘Mango Halcyon’ with Ben from the brewing team.

This was part of the Big Beery Night 16 auction lot that Myles & Steve won an included a tour of Thornbridge Hall and the Riverside Brewery.

Information on public tours of the Riverside Brewery are available here.

Although the beers and visit were part of the lot that we won, Simon and the team at Thornbridge showed us an amazing level of hospitality for which we are very grateful. None of this impacted on our thoughts of the experience, although the pint of cask Jaipur in the Riverside Bar was possibly one of the best beers ever poured.

Revisited 01 – Wild Raven Black IPA

It’s the first in our Revisited series, where we go back to beers we reviewed way back when we started, and experience them with more seasoned taste buds.

This episode we go back to Thornbridge’s fine black IPA, Wild Raven (once called simply ‘Raven’).

The UK Top 10 Ales

We have our first brewery to win 2 polls, running away with the votes on this one…

1. Marble Pint 3.9% ABV (bitter)
Former guest on the show and Manchester-based blogger Rowan Molyneux has this to say about the winning beer… Marble has been one of my favourite breweries since I started drinking beer, and when I moved to Manchester I was delighted to be able to drink in Marble’s own pubs. Zingy, pale and fresh, Pint is a stalwart of the Marble range. Full-bodied despite its low ABV, the grapefruit and lemon flavours sing from the glass and its clean, refreshing nature leads you towards ordering another, and another…. To drink this by anything less than, well, the pint, would be an injustice! For me, Pint is the perfect session beer.

Episode 89 – Vienna IPA

Oh VIENNAAAAAAAAAAA! (Sorry about that) This week we review the winner of the Thornbridge/Waitrose homebrew contest, Graham Nelson’s Vienna IPA (stockists here). We’re also joined by Graham and Thornbridge head brewer Rob Lovatt to chat about the beer, competition and brewing in general.

There’s hardly as news this week as Brewdog didn’t write anything for us, but we announce the winners of our Beer 52 competitions and there’s the #prizelessprize Instagram of the week.

All this plus updates about our Crimbo Crawl and all of the usual beery banter – it’s beer o’clock!

Episode 83 – Halcyon

The poorest-kept secret in beer podcasting… this week, the boys review Thornbridge’s Halcyon (cue HALCYON KLAXON) with guest host, beer blogger and all-round hop monster Rowan Molyneux.

Also a round up of what is going to happen at the Indy Man Beer Con (hint: carnage), the #prizelessprize and all the news.

Episode 67 – Homebrew Special #2

It’s time for another Homebrew Special – and this time we have a trio of amazing beers from Daz Oakley, Connor Murphy and Andrew Hobbs: an american pale ale, a black IPA and a chocolate orange imperial stout (yes, you read that right!).

We discuss all manner of homebrewy things with the lads, and hopefully collect some tips for all of you thinking of putting a bucket in your shed or spare wardrobe in case you’re thinking of entering the Thornbridge / Waitrose Great British Homebrew Challenge 2014 www.gbhomebrew.co.uk

We also look back at the 25 Taps of Magic, look forward to the Bermondsey Beer Mile and Summer Brew Fest plus there’s also a bonus interview with the guys from Brewdog’s latest venture, Bottledog Kings X.

UK Top Ten IPAs

IPA

The list came about due to the inspiration found in Andy Parker’s recent blog ‘Rule Britannia’ where Andy talks about “coveting beers from the US”. The task itself, was simple wasn’t it? Take to the Twittersphere to gain opinion as to a favoured ten or so beers and put them into the list. Only it wasn’t that simple. WIthin a couple of hours the list has reached 50-odd suggestions and things were running away with me, so I once again took to the Twittersphere to ask for advice and was offered the following suggestions…
