Hopinions 79 “Balance”

We’re back for 2019 with a jam packed show full of news, views and beer!

Beers | Hawkshead ‘Windermere Pale’,  ‘Iti’ & ‘Tonka Shake’, Fuller’s ‘1981 ESB’ and Mashionistas ‘Slurple Haze’ & ‘Darc Almond’

Hopinions Do you think you have a healthy balance when it comes to your drinking?

Many thanks to Hawkshead and Mashionistas for sending us beers to try for free on the show, this didn’t influence our thoughts.

Hopinions 78 “Taste”

In this show we take part in a taste experiment put together for us by returning guest Ruth Mitchell. We drink 5 pairs of drinks, one of which is a beer and the other another drink with similar taste profiles. We have to work out what we’re drinking!

We also have our own butler, Matt Chinnery serving us and joining us for some of the discussions.

Hopinions 77 “Time and Space”

In this special show, we’re joined by Belgian beer aficionado Jezza to take us through a vertical tasting of a classic Christmas beer, Stille Nacht (Silent Night). Jezza also talks to us about his passion for ageing beer and his work with Beer Guide London.

Beer |  De Dolle Brouwers ‘Stille Nacht’ 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 and ‘Stille Nacht Reserva’ 2005

Bond. James Bond. We take on an absolute cult classic from the 70’s with Martin taking geekery to a new level and talking facts throughout the entire film. The beers that we enjoyed for this show were…

Thornbridge / Cigar City ‘Jai Jai’

Arundel ‘Clockwork NEIPA (Mosaic & Idaho7)’

Innis & Gunn ’15 Barrel Aged DIPA’*

Brasserie Dupont ‘Saison Dupont Cuvee Dry Hopping (2017)’

Weird Beard ‘Heavy Fuel’

Ampersand ‘Experiments in Evil (Whisky BA 2018)’

Northern Monk / Legitmate Industries ‘Raspberry & Pinot Noir Barrel Aged Quad’

*This was sent to us by Innis & Gunn but this hasn’t influenced our thoughts on it or how much Bond’s cheesy one liners get much worse with age.

Hopinions 74 “Stout, stout, let it all out”

A slightly different show for us this week as we bring you a series of discussions that we had while we were at the Open Gate Brewery in Dublin.

First up, you’ll hear from Erin Peters, founder of Stout Day, followed by a discussion with Eibhlin Colgan from the Guinness Archives before a final conversation with Padraig Fox, Manager of the Open Gate Brewery and Jens van Stee, Brewmaster at Brouwerij Emelisse from the Netherlands.

Hopinions | Is the mobile phone an unwelcome distraction with modern day drinking culture?

Beers | Open Gate Brewery ‘Citra IPA’, Guinness & Brouwerij Timmermans ‘Lambic & Stout’, Brouwerij Emelisse ‘Barrel Finished #1’ & ‘Barrel Finished #2’

Our entire trip to Dublin was paid for by Diageo/Guinness/The Open Gate Brewery for which we are incredibly grateful for but this didn’t influence the content within this podcast or our thoughts on the beers discussed. The beers from Brouwerij Emelisse were also provided for free by Jens and once again did not influence our thoughts on these beers.

Hopinions 73 “Temperature”

This week we’re focusing on a question from one of our listeners about whether revered and rare beers live up to their hype. Thanks to Roland Glew for suggesting this topic.

Beers | Jester King ‘Enigmatic Taxa’, JW Lees ‘Harvest Ale (2015)’, Thornbridge ‘Days of Creation’, Brewdog ‘Hinterland (EFP BA version)’, Fuller’s ‘Brewers Reserve No 5’ and Old Chimneys ‘Good King Henry Special Reserve (2013)’

Hopinions | Do you care about the temperature of your beer?

Many thanks to Shane from Cheshire Brewhouse for sending us his beers to try for free on the show, this didn’t influence our thoughts.

Hopinions 71 “Sour Face”

This week, Martin makes Steve confront his nemesis as he takes him on a journey through sour beers.
